Corporate Training

We offer a range of corporate and specialist courses on demand to accommodate the particular learning needs of businesses or companies.

Closed corporate classes for your business or company employees can be arranged, either on your own premises, or at CET, as best suits your needs. The precise content of these courses can be tailored to suit the level, degree of specialization and learning needs of your business and its employees.

For very low-level learners (beginners), we usually recommend a general English course at Starter Level 1 or Basic Level 2 before commencing on any specialist programme of business English, in order to lay the necessary foundations of basic English grammar and vocabulary which all learners need in order to progress to more specialist or business orientated learning. For learners who already have a basic knowledge of English, it may be possible to commence directly on a specialist or business course at an appropriately higher level.

Corporate English classes can follow any of the listed types or progression systems below, according to your needs and requirements.

- A general English course following the same pattern and progression system as our general English courses for adults. This may be more suitable for those whose English is at fairly low levels, or where companies wish their staff to develop a general knowledge of the English language without any particular focus.

- A general English course for working business people, following the popular ‘International Express’ textbook series. While this is still, primarily, a general English course, there is a stronger focus on the topics and language of the workplace in general and some work, especially at the higher levels, on more business related issues such as meetings, negotiations, writing reports and holding interviews.

- A specialist business English course following the ‘Market Leader’ series of textbooks and concentrating on the language needs of the business man or woman in the modern world. This course, consisting of five textbooks from Elementary Level to Advanced Level, focuses strongly on the language and communication of business, including topics such as:-

• Writing reports, references and formal business letters and e mails
• Conducting meetings, negotiations and interviews
• Giving presentations and oral reports on business topics
• Business travel; related issues and problems
• The internet, the media and global communication and development
• Marketing, retailing, purchasing and troubleshooting

This course is particularly suitable for more senior business people who already have some knowledge of English but who now wish to utilize and develop this knowledge in a global market where English is becoming the international language. Business students of a higher level who are taking this course may also wish to work towards one of the prestigious International Business English qualifications which are offered by Cambridge;- the BEC (Business English Certificate) Preliminary, Vantage and Higher exams. CET can run preparatory course with an experienced trainer.

The BEC qualification is recognized worldwide by companies as diverse as Sony Ericsson, Shell, Vodafone, Bayer, Coca Cola and HSBC. The examinations test your abilities in various practical speaking, writing and reading tasks such as being able to write a report or take a telephone message.

BEC preparation for the various examination papers would normally be interspersed with a progression programme following our standard Business English coursebook series, ‘Market Leader’. The progression of courses is as follows;-
• Level BZ1 ‘Market Leader’ Elementary
• Level BZ2 ‘Market Leader’ Pre-Intermediate
• Level BZ3 BEC Preliminary
• Level BZ4 ‘Market Leader’ Intermediate
• Level BZ5 BEC Vantage
• Level BZ6 ‘Market Leader’ Upper Intermediate
• Level BZ7 BEC Higher
• Level BZ8 ‘Market Leader’ Advanced

As with our regular course progression system, each level would normally involve around 100 hours of classroom time and be accompanied by a carefully designed set of practical learning outcomes. A special purpose English (ESP) course is available for those working in a particular discipline and wishing to expand and develop their English language knowledge to operate successfully or progress in that particular field. These courses can be tailor-made to suit most requirements. We have a number of specialist teachers and a wide range of excellent specialist textbooks now exist for these programmes.

Specialist English programmes can include:-
• English for Legal Purposes (suitable for those working in the legal profession)
• English for Banking Purposes (suitable for those working in the banking and financial sector)
• English for Medical Purposes (suitable for those working in the medical profession e.g. doctors and nurses).
• English for Military Purposes (suitable for those working in any branch of the military)
• English for Academic Purposes (suitable for those studying to take a degree or other examination in English)

In all cases listed above, both group and individual lessons can be arranged with an experienced teacher who is a native speaker at a time to suityour or your company’s needs.
